The European Digital program will finance the areas of supercomputing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, advanced digital skills and expansion of digital technologies

The European Union is preparing the financing of the new European Digital program that will be launched in 2021 and will continue until 2027. This program seeks to promote digital transformation in Europe and focuses mainly on the areas of supercomputing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, advanced digital skills and wide use of digital technologies.

WASACE 1 will connect with high-speed fiber optic Europe and Latin America through the Canary Islands

The company Hemisphere Cable Company, S.L. with an office in Tenerife and the NEC Corporation will connect Europe and Latin America with the WASACE 1 optical cable. This infrastructure will include an Operations Center and a Data Center in the Canary Islands, where future routes to West Africa, the Mediterranean and North America will be planned. In addition, a second cable, the WASACE 2, will connect in the near future Canary Islands and South Africa.

SPECULOOS first observations

The project SPECULOOS has made its first observations in ESO's Paranal Observatory (ESO = European Southern Observatory) in Northern Chile.

SPECULOOS is focused on the detection of Earth-sized planets orbiting close to ultra-cold stars and brown dwarfs.

Rafael Rebolo National Research Award 2018

ReboloRafael Rebolo, director of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands has been awarded the National Prize "Blas Cabrera" for Research in Physical Sciences, Materials and Earth Sciences of 2018 for "the relevance of his contributions to the knowledge of the cosmos. Particularly noteworthy are its pioneering contributions in the discovery of giant exoplanets and super-Earths, the decay of stars in black holes and the detection of the microwave background and its anisotropy (general property of matter according to which, qualities such as elasticity, temperature, conductivity, speed of light propagation, etc. vary depending on the direction in which they are examined)".

Scientific Mission from South Korea (Daejeon Metropolitan City)

From 13th to 20th December 2018, a mission made up by scientists from Daejeon Metropolitan City will visit Madrid, Granada, Tenerife and La Palma. This mission is included in the Promotion and External Collaboration Plan of INEUSTAR in such country.


Daejeon (1.5 M hab.) is considered the Science City in South Korea, counting with more thatn 17 Universities and a great part of Institutes and Research Centers are located in its "scientific belt". 

Ineustar, the Spanish Science Industry Association, has been developing, since 4 years ago, collaboration activities in South Korea with a joint presence in events, conferences and exhibitions, organizing workshops and helping with specific collaboration agreements.
